Water puppetry theatre adds 19 performers to Hue’s charms
Visitors to the historical central city of Hue can now enjoy water puppet shows at a new theatre opened last week.
Nguyen Phi Tuan, director of the theatre at 49 Le Loi Street, said two shows were performed nightly. These feature 19 acts and classical Vietnamese music performed by 19 young puppeteers.
The theatre also plans to incorporate traditional Hue music like nha nhac (royal court music) and dances to the water puppetry performances.
The shows cost VND50,000 per person.
Singaporean food promotion of buffet fusion dishes kicks off in HCM City
The Amara Sai Gon Hotel has a Singaporean food festival from November 5 to 22.
Executive Chef Danny Koh, a Singapore native, and his culinary team prepare an extensive buffet with 50 traditional and fusion dishes to acquaint diners with the secrets of Singaporean cuisine.
The buffet is priced at US$15++ per guest, including a beer or soft drink.
Renowned artist donates painting to Victoria Sa Pa resort
Well-known HCM City-based artist Helene Kling presented last week a beautiful painting of a mother and child belonging to the Red Dao ethnic group to Victoria Sa Pa Resort. Naturally, it is titled Sa Pa.
Kling says she drew inspiration for the painting during her many trips to Sa Pa and its surrounding regions. The characters in the painting are of real people who live in Ta Phin Village which she sketched during a recent visit.
The colourful background tapestry in the painting represents the textiles that the local hill tribes weave.
Central Highlands prepares for Gong Festival, featuring 30 troupes
Buon Ma Thuot city in the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) province of Dac Lac is preparing for the annual Gong Festival to be held from November 21 to 24.
The festival will feature gong and drum performances by 30 troupes from around the country. The musicians will get an opportunity to fuse styles with classical musicians from orchestras.
The event will showcase, besides, many traditional ceremonies practised by the ethnic people of the region – like the rain-invocation ceremony of the M’Nong, the wedding ceremony of the Ma, and the new rice ceremony of the E De.
It will also feature street activities and a parade of elephants pulling carriages decorated with flowers. Each carriage will carry a troupe of gong and drum artists and young locals modelling ethnic costumes worn in the highlands. — VNS |
