Ha Long Bay is world famous for its picturesque seascapes enshrouded year-long in mist. Legend has it that these centuries-old karsts, carpeted in lush greenery, are a gift from heaven and together form a natural fortress to protect the city against unwelcome visitors. When viewed from an elevated distance, the scattering arrangements conjure up an image of a water dragon, and thus the name "Ha Long" which translates as "Bay of Descending Dragons" was given to the area.
