The year 2008 will be designated as “Visit Mekong Delta Year”, promoting unforgettable impressions of the Mekong Delta Region, such as the legendary Mekong River, the immense rice fields, fertile delta, fruitful gardens, diversified bio-system, unique rice culture, ancient traditions and festivals, historical and cultural relics of the peoples of Viet, Hoa, Khmer and Cham.
One interesting sight is the floating market. At sunrise, hundreds of boats would gather in one place of the river, peddling local specialities. In addition to trading activities, tourists visit the market and mingle with the local people. Tourists may also visit fruit gardens, bird sanctuaries and traditional handicraft villages with special features of the southern region. What’s more, tourists may explore mangrove forests in Ca Mau, which is a biological destination, second to none on the world map.
